We May Have Built the First Technology That Can Show Humanity Itself

Humanity may have just created the most powerful pattern-recognition machine in history. And we’re mostly using it to sell more shoes.

Artificial Intelligence can analyze galaxies, discover new drugs, write software, generate art, and process more information in seconds than any human could absorb in a lifetime.

Yet much of its power is focused on questions like:

• Which ad are you most likely to click?
• What product will you buy next?
• How can a platform keep your attention for a few more minutes?

There is nothing inherently wrong with these applications.

But it feels a bit like using a telescope to examine grains of sand.

The Pattern Behind Every Great Discovery

Think about it ? Many of history’s greatest breakthroughs weren’t about discovering something new. They were about recognizing a pattern that had been there all along.

Gravity existed before Newton.

Evolution existed before Darwin.

Continents fit together long before plate tectonics.

The discoveries weren’t new realities—they were new ways of seeing.

Interestingly, many spiritual traditions describe awakening in much the same way. Not as becoming something new, but as recognizing what has always been true.

A tree depends on soil.

Nothing stands alone. The same pattern appears in ecosystems, economies, weather systems, and human societies. Even galaxies are not isolated islands in space. They are connected through vast structures known as the cosmic web—an immense network spanning billions of light-years.

The deeper we look, we realize that separation is an illusion. For thousands of years, spiritual traditions have pointed toward a similar insight.

So, What If We Pointed AI Inward?

Today, AI is largely focused on understanding behavior. But mostly for commercial purposes.

It learns what keeps us scrolling, clicking, buying, and consuming.

Imagine an AI studying: Buddhist teachings Advaita Vedanta, Zen writings, Sufi poetry, Christian mysticism, Modern meditation research

Not to judge which is correct. Simply to identify recurring themes. Would it discover that traditions separated by centuries and continents often point toward the same fundamental insights?

What if we asked different questions and specific to each individual? What if we asked:

What are my patterns which keeps me from awakening?

What pattern break can lead to inner peace?

What creates lasting fulfillment?

What are my common causes of suffering?

Humanity has already generated an enormous dataset. Millions of meditation journals. Thousands of years of contemplative writings. Spiritual autobiographies. Mystical experiences. Psychological research. Neuroscience studies. What patterns are hidden within all of that for each of us? ____________________________

The Most Valuable Spiritual AI

Again, the most valuable spiritual AI may not be a teacher. It is a mirror.

Imagine being shown individual patterns that are difficult to see on your own: You consistently seek happiness in future achievements.

Your anxiety rises whenever certainty disappears.

Most of your suffering comes from defending a particular identity.

Your deepest fulfillment appears when helping others.

None of these insights would be new. They would already be present in your life. AI would simply make them visible. And visibility is often the beginning of transformation. You can’t outgrow a pattern you haven’t recognized. ____________________________

Why This Matters

Humanity has never possessed more information. Yet loneliness, anxiety, distraction, and burnout continue to rise. The problem may no longer be a lack of knowledge. It may be a lack of perspective. We have become remarkably skilled at understanding the world around us. We are still learning how to understand and go beyond the mind that experiences it. ____________________________

One Question Worth Asking

If AI can help us discover hidden patterns throughout the universe, could it also help us discover the hidden patterns that keep us from recognizing our deeper nature?

I don’t know the answer.

But as we build increasingly intelligent machines, it may be one of the most important questions we can ask. Because perhaps AI’s greatest contribution won’t be teaching us something new. Perhaps AI will help us see what has been there all along and help us evolve together to higher understanding.
