A thought inspired by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
A few days ago, I attended a seminar by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and in the middle of his talk he said something so simple, and yet so profound, that it has refused to leave my mind.
AI vs. AI.
Artificial Intelligence vs. Absolute Intelligence.
I smiled at first because I enjoy clever wordplay. But the more I reflected on it, the more I realized this wasn’t just a catchy phrase. It was a completely different way of looking at the AI revolution.
As someone who works in data and analytics, I spend my days thinking about Artificial Intelligence, how it can analyze patterns, automate decisions, and help us solve problems that were once impossible.
But that day I was reminded of something else.
Maybe AI isn’t the final destination.
Maybe it’s just another step toward understanding something far greater.
This is also the question at the heart of my larger exploration of AI, consciousness, and spirituality.
What Is Absolute Intelligence?
Gurudev described Absolute Intelligence as infinite consciousness—the intelligence that underlies all existence.
Whether you approach that idea through Vedanta, Taoism, Sufism, Christian mysticism, or simply as a philosophical thought experiment, the idea is remarkably similar: beneath the complexity of the universe lies a deeper organizing intelligence. I’m not asking you to accept that as fact.
I’m inviting you to consider it as a possibility.
Because asking better questions is often more valuable than rushing toward answers.
AI Doesn’t Create Intelligence. It Extends Ours.
Artificial Intelligence doesn’t magically become intelligent on its own.
It extends human intelligence. I have explored this paradox before in this article
It allows us to process more information than we could ever handle ourselves.
It reveals patterns hidden inside billions of data points.
It helps us see relationships that would otherwise remain invisible.
In other words, AI expands our perception.
That made me wonder…
If Artificial Intelligence expands our ability to perceive reality…
What would Absolute Intelligence represent?
Reality Is Bigger Than Our Senses
Science has repeatedly shown us that our senses reveal only a tiny slice of reality.
Humans see only the visible spectrum of light.
We cannot naturally see infrared.
Or ultraviolet.
Dogs experience a world of scent that we can barely imagine.
Bats navigate through echolocation.
Migratory birds appear to sense Earth’s magnetic field.
None of these realities began existing when we discovered them.
They were always there.
Our ability to perceive them simply improved.
History is full of examples where new tools expanded what humans considered possible.
The telescope.
The microscope.
MRI scanners.
Particle accelerators.
Each one revealed a layer of reality we couldn’t previously observe.
Artificial Intelligence may become another such instrument.
Imagine AI Decoding Animal Language
Here’s a thought experiment.
We all agree that animals communicate.
Whales sing.
Elephants mourn.
Bees dance.
Dolphins whistle.
Dogs clearly distinguish between excitement, fear, warning, affection, and play.
Yet we generally say,
“Humans can’t understand animal language.”
But what if that’s only true because we haven’t yet decoded it?
Imagine feeding decades of whale songs, dolphin whistles, elephant calls, facial expressions, body posture, and environmental context into increasingly sophisticated AI models.
Suppose one day AI identifies consistent grammar, recurring meanings, emotional patterns, and even conversations.
What changed?
The animals?
No.
Reality itself?
No.
Only our ability to perceive it.
Artificial Intelligence would have extended human intelligence just enough to reveal something that had been there all along.
Then I Wondered…
If AI can uncover hidden patterns in nature…
Could meditation uncover hidden patterns in consciousness?
Both involve expanding perception.
One does it outwardly through technology.
The other attempts it inwardly through awareness.
Perhaps they are very different journeys.
Or perhaps they are two different paths exploring the same mystery.
Artificial Intelligence vs. Absolute Intelligence
The more I reflected on Gurudev’s phrase, the clearer the distinction became.
Artificial Intelligence:
- Learns from data.
- Finds patterns.
- Makes predictions.
- Generates answers.
- Interestingly, this also exposes one of the great limitations of today’s AI: despite its extraordinary capabilities, Artificial Intelligence is nowhere near all-knowing. Human intelligence:
- Imagines.
- Questions.
- Creates meaning.
- Exercises judgment.
But what would Absolute Intelligence be?
Perhaps it doesn’t learn because nothing is unknown.
Perhaps it doesn’t search because everything is already present.
Perhaps it doesn’t predict because all possibilities already exist.
Whether you believe such a thing exists is a personal question.
But as a philosophical idea, I find it beautiful.
Because it reminds us that every breakthrough may simply reveal how much more there is to discover.
The Danger of Thinking We’ve Reached the Summit
Every generation believes it is standing at the pinnacle of knowledge.
Then history humbles us.
We once believed the Earth was the center of the universe.
We believed diseases were caused by bad air.
We believed continents couldn’t move.
Each time, reality turned out to be larger than our imagination.
Today, Artificial Intelligence feels like the greatest intellectual leap of our era.
And perhaps it is.
But hearing the phrase Artificial Intelligence vs. Absolute Intelligence reminded me not to mistake the newest tool for the ultimate truth.
Technology may be accelerating faster than ever.
That doesn’t necessarily mean we have reached the limits of intelligence itself.
One Final Thought
After writing this article, I asked Claude why my blog wasn’t growing faster.
Its answer was refreshingly honest.
“Don’t worry about optimization yet. Write more.”
It suggested building a meaningful library of articles—around thirty or more—before obsessing over SEO, algorithms, or traffic.
That was a useful reminder.
The internet rewards consistency before perfection.
So this is another step in that journey.
One more article.
One more question.
And perhaps one tiny step—from thinking about Artificial Intelligence toward contemplating Absolute Intelligence.
