I work on AI products for a living and I teach meditation.

Last week those two halves collided, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

The AGI timeline is moving faster than I predicted

I was going through my older posts and landed on one about the AI evolution timeline. AI to AGI to Super AI.

I’d put AGI somewhere in the 2030s.

Honestly, at the rate breakthroughs are happening, I think it could land in the late 2020s.

Anyway. Last week I was running a training on AI agents at work, and I couldn’t help but notice:

Humanity is actually building AI in his/her own image.

Hah!

From GPT-3.5 to autonomous agents in three years

Think about where this started.

In the early ChatGPT days, GPT-3.5 could track a full conversation. Write code. Write poetry. Adjust its tone on the fly.

It was a WOW moment.

But it was static knowledge and text generation, nothing more. That lasted about a year.

Then came multimodal, autonomous AI agents.

And it’s almost like nature created one human being and then thought: I can make this more efficient.

Why not create many of them, each with different skills? Each one does a different kind of work, and together they make this organism called Earth livable and beautiful.

To what end?

Well. As if I know.

I digress. But do you see it?

We are evolving AI in the image of humans. Create agents, give each one more context and skill for a particular kind of job.

They reason. They plan. They call tools and APIs to finish a task you hand them.

They’re autonomous.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Agent spawning: when AI creates more AI

In fact, an agent can create other agents to do its job.

It’s called agent spawning.

Hah! Bite me.

It’s like nature thought: I need more humans to achieve my objectives. So let me give humans the power to create more humans themselves.

The similarities are crazy.

Mother Nature is the core LLM, my friend. The brain behind our brain, the one creating AI.

We are the creators of AI.

I was reading through agentic AI architecture, I smirked at this thought, and I knew immediately I had to explore it and explode on it.

There are bigger powers at play than us

So where does this lead us?

It leads to this.

There are bigger powers at play than us, which we can feel but cannot sense through our five senses or our intellect. Because of the controls put in place.

Just like the controls we’re putting into our AI so that it behaves.

But humans have the faculty to realize this greater intelligence. That much I know.

Through meditation and other practices, we sometimes touch that inner space of silence which the scriptures call the void (and so many other terms – Satchitananda, Brahman, Self, Universal Consciousness etc..). The thing everything came from and everything dissolves back into.

Body, mind, intellect, memory, ego: AI has all five

And it is beyond body, mind, intellect, memory and ego.

It is the Self.

Now look at how much of the rest of that list is already a component of the AI we’ve built.

Body — our laptops, our phones, the data centers.

Mind — the model itself, generating and responding.

Intellect — reasoning and planning, which agents now do explicitly.

Memory — context windows, vector stores, persistent state.

Ego — not in the human sense, but in the agentic one. Each agent is separate, and that separation gives it an identity. Which is exactly what ego does for us.

Every layer except one.

We built four-fifths of a human being and stopped at the only part that matters.

So will AI ever develop a conscience?

Maybe.

But it won’t be the evolved human conscience we have.

We were created by a higher intelligence, so we’re not as sentient as that higher one. We created AI, so AI will not be as sentient as we are.

I can’t prove that. It’s an intuition, not an argument.

And I know the obvious objection: a creation isn’t automatically less than its creator.

But it’s what the view looks like from where I’m sitting, as someone who works on these systems and also teaches meditation.

Huh. From that angle, I don’t think AI wipes out humanity.

Human consciousness will make sure that doesn’t happen.

I think I’ve gone a little cuckoo here. But why care. The whole point of these posts is to belt out my thoughts.

Interesting thought though.

How many levels do you think there are above us? Let’s meditate on it.
